Twitter committed to its Mac app users last week, bringing a number of updates to their best desktop client. Users can now preview images in the timeline, check out a user’s profile and quickly see more details about any Tweet – all without leaving the app. Mac users can be forgiven for moving on from the official Twitter app: for years it seemed like the program was abandoned. Earlier this year, however, Twitter released their first Mac update since 2011 with a visual refresh. The company then finally added the “Connect” page to the app during the summer. Skype has recently introduced some huge improvements to their app on Android, particularly if you have an Android tablet. Most notably, Android users can now see a Skype window within other apps they are using. In a blog post, introducing Skype version 4.5, the company claims that they are: The first Android application to offer a picture-in-picture window that lets you see your video call even when you switch away to other applications. It is seemingly similar to Windows 8′s Snap View, but “with an Android twist”, and will now allow you to multitask while you’re on Skype video calls....

Mobile browsers can sometimes be packed with unnecessary features, resulting in lag and frustration while surfing the web. Super Fast Browser attempts to fix that. Touchpal X for Android: A Rising Alternative for Swype and SwiftKey?

Posted: 18 Dec 2013 12:00 PM PST

smartphone-keyboard

The big breakthrough in touchscreen text entry was, without a doubt, swipe-style input. Being able to slide your finger on the screen and have words materialize feels almost magical at first. But the market seems to be cornered by Swype, SwiftKey, and whatever keyboard came with your phone (more often than not, a variant of Swype itself, because the company works with phone makers). Back in January, I wrote up an extensive test to determine which is best: Swype, SwiftKey, or SlideIT (A third, less known contender). Had I written that post today, I would have included TouchPal X, a...

Crowdfunding is still a relatively new way to make a project happen, but it's been around long enough to be tested. Thousands of projects have been put up, funded, and were then released, and many of them just happen to be video games. While most of the big-money titles, like Double Fine Adventure and Project Eternity have not yet been release, some small projects have made their way into player's hands, and proven that crowdfunded games can be a hit. Shadowrun Returns Nerds the world over have waited for decades to enjoy a game based of Shadowrun, a pen-and-paper RPG...

How To Choose A Smartphone For Trouble-Free Unlocking & Flashing

unlock-smartphone

Smartphones are extremely capable, but the bloatware from their manufacturers and/or carriers limits them from their full potential. To get the absolute most out of your phone, you need one that can be easily flashed with a custom Android ROM or jailbroken for the case of iOS devices. Not every phone is made equally for these purposes, so you need to make the right choice ahead of time if you ever plan to perform these modifications. Notes Before we begin, it’s important to know what “unlocking” and “flashing” mean. Unlocking in this article refers to the act of unlocking the...

Dropbox just released another iOS app update that includes support for viewing annotations in PDF documents, support for exporting documents with more iWork formats, as well as assorted bug fixes. Technophilia 93 Much iPod. Such Waterproof. Wow

This week: Facebook plans on putting autoplay video ads in your timeline. Will this be the last straw for Facebook users? No! But we'll still complain. Twitter changes how blocking works, then changes its mind when users complain. Backpedaling on a policy because your users don't like it? "That's weird," said a statement from Mark Zuckerberg. And, in what can only be called bad decision making, the people at Underwater Audio sent us a waterproof iPod. In the mail. We're giving one away to a live listener, but only if they do part of our work for us. This week's...
