For Visual Thinkers: 2 Different Ways To Look At Your Evernote Notes Posted: 24 Jan 2014 12:00 PM PST ![]() Evernote is the closest (or at least, the most popular) digital relative of the old moleskin notebook. There’s just one slight hitch – Evernote organizes all the notes and notebooks in a flat, linear structure. Usually, it isn't a problem at all if you are anything other than a visual thinker. Visual thinkers lean more towards free-flowing methods like sketchnoting and mindmaping. Visual thinking helps to break down the complexity of information and gives you another angle to look at it from. When it comes to working with information, a more visual approach also helps to re-organize the structure of... Battle Supremacy Brings Tank Warfare To iOS, But Is It Any Good? Posted: 24 Jan 2014 11:00 AM PST ![]() There’s no denying the popularity of the free-to-play gung-ho battle sim World of Tanks, but the franchise has yet to make it onto iOS. That’ll soon be changing with the arrival of World of Tanks Blitz, and so for now we’ll have to make do with Battle Supremacy ($4.99) instead. Developed by the same studio that brought us the Sky Gamblers flight simulators, Battle Supremacy is an all-round World War II fighting game with an emphasis on tank warfare. Players are also invited to fly planes, drive trucks and sail ships, which all sounds very fun indeed – but is... The Only Chrome Extension You Need For Gmail: mxHero Toolbox Posted: 24 Jan 2014 10:00 AM PST ![]() Gmail is our favourite email service here at MakeUseOf, but admittedly, it has a few shortcomings. For one, the inability to schedule emails to send them later is quite frustrating. Plus, it would be nice to be able to know when someone has checked your message, and maybe even get reminded to follow-up with those who haven’t. I’d never have guessed that someone would come up with an extension that solves all of these problems for free. And mxHero Toolbox not only does that, but also adds the ability to send self-destructing messages right from your Gmail! How To Send... SkyDrive For Windows 8: The Cloud Storage And Modern File Explorer App Posted: 24 Jan 2014 09:00 AM PST ![]() With Windows 8, Microsoft included SkyDrive integration with every PC, and with Windows 8.1, they have pushed that integration even further. Now, the SkyDrive for Windows 8 app is a must-use for any Windows 8 user. Every person with a Microsoft account is given 7GB of storage for free, which is notably better than many alternative cloud storage services like Dropbox. Filling up that space is whatever you choose to put in your SkyDrive folder, as well as your PC’s personalization settings, and the app even works as a modern file explorer. Cloud Storage There used to be a desktop... Read the full article: SkyDrive For Windows 8: The Cloud Storage And Modern File Explorer App |

2 Ways to Play Civilization On Android Posted: 24 Jan 2014 07:00 AM PST ![]() There is a curious lack of Sid Meier titles available for Android. So just how does a Civilization junkie get his fix courtesy of the little green robot? Why Civilization? In 1991 I accidentally bought the original Civilization for my Amiga. I say “accidentally” because I’d intended to buy Sim City after playing it on my uncles’ PC several months earlier, but somehow found myself reading the box and walking, somnambulist-like, to the counter and paying, as if remotely hypnotised by Sid Meier himself. Ever since I’ve been addicted to the game (couldn’t get to grips with Civ 3, however)... Read the full article: 2 Ways to Play Civilization On Android |
Google Search Uses Dropdown To Reveal More Information On Relevant Websites Posted: 24 Jan 2014 06:30 AM PST ![]() The Knowledge Graph was a significant addition to the search results page. Google now integrates a bit more from it under each individual search result. A little dropdown menu just below the search results tells you more about the websites you see in the search results page. By including information on notable websites, Google gives searchers an opportunity to learn more about a website without needing to click through and searching for the information on their own. At a glance, it will help users source the relevant search information from an authoritative website. As you can see in the screenshot... If you are confused about Facebook hashtags, or wondering why they’re simply not working, here are a few pieces of information you may want to know. Hashtags Are Not Native To Facebook Hashtags have been kicking around the engineering community since the 1970s. Twitter was launched in late 2006. Task-Oriented Email App Mail Pilot Arrives On Mac OS X Posted: 24 Jan 2014 05:00 AM PST ![]() Popular iOS mail app Mail Pilot, which we reviewed last year, is now available for OS X in the Mac App Store ($19.99). Like the mobile version of the app, Mail Pilot for Mac is very useful for managing important email like a to-do list. Mail Pilot’s task-oriented approach allows users to attach reminders or set aside selected messages for later review. These management features make it distinctive from Apple’s own Mail and other desktop mail clients. Managing Mail & Reminders The basic interface consists of three columns: mail accounts and folders on the left, a list of messages in the...
