Posted: 08 Aug 2013 07:30 PM PDT

How To Share A Windows CD Or DVD Drive On Your Network

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 02:30 PM PDT

network

“How do you share a CD or DVD drive across a network?” This was the question that dropped into my head recently as it became apparent that I would need to access data on some archive DVDs. If I was using a standard PC this wouldn't be a problem; as it is, I've been the owner of an Acer Iconia W700 for several months now and one of the key drawbacks of a tablet computer is that they don't come with integrated DVD drives. Now, I do have one way around this problem. Recently I purchased a caddy for an...

4 Alternatives To The Pebble Watch

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 02:00 PM PDT

watches

I love watches! I love technology! When these two things come together, I pay attention. Do you? I owned a SPOT watch. Did you? Casio Databank? Had one in the 80s. Some say smartwatches are the best thing since Prince George. Others say they’ll be a blip on the radar screen like so many TV shows once Ted McGinley was on them. If the early success of such watches as the Pebble smartwatch is any predictor, I’m saying that they’ll be a big hit. The Pebble E-Paper Watch (which we’ve just reviewed and will be giving away) has a lot...

Morguefile-Caprisco-News-1680x840

Google will now feature longer, in-depth articles on the search results page and will call attention to them within a new block of results. The new block of results specifically for in-depth articles will not affect the regular search results as they will get the same prominence as before. The in-depth article block will be nearer the foot of the page, though the exact position hasn't been confirmed yet. The update has arrived on Google.com (the English version) to begin with and soon should extend to other domains. Google found that nearly 10% of all searches are for detailed information....

LinCity-NG for Linux vs. SimCity: Is Free Always Better?

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 11:00 AM PDT

lincity_simcity_intro

I’ve always loved simulation games for as long as I can remember. They can involve so many different aspects of the topic in question and can keep you entertained for hours. However, a common downside to any great simulation game is the price to purchase it. Thankfully, there are open source equivalents which aim to replace their costly proprietary cousins — examples include FlightGear and LinCity-NG as alternatives to Microsoft’s Flight Simulator series and SimCity games respectively. It’s great to be able to play these open source games for frugal fun, but whether they can actually be compared to their...

FullRecall: A Cross-Platform Tool To Remember Everything

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 09:20 AM PDT

fullrecallheader

The human memory can store data for an amazingly long time, but unlike a computer, we have a hard time recalling information that's not frequently used or obviously important. Barring injury, we'll almost never lose track of where we live. But we can have hard time digging up important details from a book read just a few weeks ago. Repetition is a great way to work around this problem. By forcing ourselves to try and remember a fact on a regular basis, you can slowly nudge your mind into retaining it. This concept is core to FullRecall, a simple, free...

It's definitely music to the ears as Spotify introduces curated playlists for every mood and occasion. The specially selected playlists selected by the Spotify staffers (experts) is coming to Android and iOS Spotify apps first, and then gradually to other platforms. Spotify is calling it "expert playlists" after the fashion of carefully picking out the best (or the most apt) for any moment of the day like a party, a jog, or just a quiet stay at home evening by the fireplace.
